August is always a busy month for Robbie with school starting up, in-services to plan and everything else that relates to the summer coming to a close. This year, I decided to take a road trip with the kids during one of his busy weeks so that he wouldn't feel badly for working late! We took to the road last Tuesday and heading for Michigan to see our dear friends and old neighbors from Jackson.
We took our time on the drive up and made a pit stop at Abe Lincoln's birthplace in Kentucky. Anyone who knows us, knows that we love American history, so this was a fun stop for the kids. The only disappointing factor was that a memorial building similar to the Lincoln Memorial in D.C. but on a much smaller scale was being built around the cabin where he lived. So, we were unable to see the real cabin, but did enjoy walking around the old farm! We really wanted to hit Boonesboro also, but it was a little too far out of the way! 
The kids were so excited to see their long lost friends that they voted to skip out on staying in a hotel with an indoor water park and keep driving all day so that they could see their friends. What a special time it was seeing them all playing together again as if they hadn't lost a year of memories! The first day we were there it rained off and on, we went to the children's museum to play and then for ice cream afterwards!
The next day was solely dedicated to the beach on Lake Michigan! It was a little different than the ocean, but it was enough to get my beach fix to last me a few more weeks! The kids had a blast jumping in the huge waves, which we are not used to on the Gulf, and digging in the sand with old and new friends alike!
Michigan has delicious produce! We picked some amazing peaches and brought home some of the sweetest blueberries we have ever had!

This little cutie was only 1 when we last saw her! Now she is talking like crazy and has the sweetest manners you ever saw in a 2 year old! She'll always be a Southern gal at heart!

ReplyDeleteYou are my hero to drive all the way up north with your kids and taking them all over tarnation. That looks like lots of fun! My kids drove me nuts in the car today for 2 1/2 hours!
