Lil' Indians

This week my sister's girls came to stay with us while she her husband went to Knoxville to spend some time and say goodbye to her father-in-law. He has gloriously battled cancer for 2 years and went home to worship at the feet of Jesus in heaven yesterday morning. You can read more about his journey to Glory Land here and here. Since this was not a planned "cousin time", I was ill prepared to stay housebound all week long with 7 little munchkins. After one wild and crazy day, I quickly decided that some creativity on my part was in order to keep this bunch busily occupied and exhausted so that they would all sleep well for me!

We dug though fabric and old clothes before we finally decided to make Indian costumes out of old pillowcases. We are watching the old TV series of Daniel Boone, so it kinda fit to dress up like Indians and pretend that we were living back in Dan'el's day.

The first day, the 5 big kids were content to put on their costumes and find their own adventures in the great outdoors surrounding our house. I painted their faces with lipstick and world of imagination awaited them!

That first night, they all slept in their costumes and were awake bright and early the next morning ready for a new day of adventure. We painted faces again and headed out to the woods right after breakfast for a 2 hour hike up and down hills, through creeks, rock beds, and a whole bunch of spider webs! The babies screamed if I stopped pushing and the middle kids whined if we didn't take a break. But, we finally made it back home to enjoy popsicles, lemonade and snow cones while mom performed tick checks on every inch of these little bodies!

My sublte plan to fatigue their little bodies paid off! Everyday, we took naps or quiet times where even Mama might be found with her eyes closed!

We also took time to play in the water when the Lil' Indians wanted to be lazy and messy inside. It was too hot outside in the afternoon to do much of anything else!

I decided that woods were too much of a workout for me with the babies in the stroller and the whining was no fun to listen to. So, the next day, we stuck to the road to find adventures. We explored "caves" (aka: bridges) and scoured the road for turkey feathers to complete our Indian costumes.

All in all, we had a great week of fun and adventure. My crew is still sporting their costumes today, so I guess you could say that hour and half of sewing pillowcase costumes really paid off!
