This summer, all 4 big kids have been practicing with our local swim team . So far, we have had 2 weeks of practice and the kids are having a blast! Now, keep in mind that the girls have had swim lessons one time 2 years ago and the boys never have. They have made huge strides already! When we began, Little E would not hold onto a kick board, and would only get in the pool if he could keep both arms around the instructor's neck. CR has been glued to his kick board and refused to go without it (unless he was in shallow water!). Even to the point of screaming and kicking with the coach when he has tried to get CR to swim with him in the water. The girls have mostly been working on building their endurance and just the last 2 days have worked on learning strokes. It has been a long process and not really like swim lessons where the kids get more individual attention since there are so many little kids swimming. But I can see progress already!
Yesterday was our first swim meet. All 3 big kids were a bit nervous and excited at the same time. CR told me he was going to complete his race without his kick board. I encouraged him to do so, but he has told me that several times in the last week and has chickened out once he got up to do it. Yesterday started out the same way. He took his spot on his lane and said he wanted his kick board. No big deal, we can keep working on that in practice. Then, he got up for his 2nd race and CH noticed he didn't have a kick board with him. I left Baby W in CH's care and ran to find a kick board to have near him just in case he chickened out again. A friend at the meet was yelling my name and telling me "NO!" to keep me from giving it to him and what do you know? The horn blew and he jumped in the water with no fear! ! Oh, I was so proud of him! He had to stop and hold on to the rope while he swam, but he did it! He actually swam without his board - and top it off, it was at a meet which blew me away!

The girls did great as well. CH only competed in one event, which she wasn't happy about since MV was in four events and CR was in 2. We are going to work on that though and see if we can get her ready to swim in a relay and maybe the breaststroke. You can see her competitive nature come out in the water as she tries her hardest to move those little legs fast! MV's backstroke looks pretty graceful for a girl who has never done it before! She doesn't like it, but I think she will be great at it! And Little E didn't swim this time, but we think we are going to let him join in with his kickboard nezt week!
This is both of the girls swimming , both in blue
